Our hiatus is over and Metonymy Press is open for submissions! We’re excited to get our publishing program running again and to read your work.<\/p>

Here’s what we’re looking for:
We are currently seeking novels, short story collections, essay collections, poetry collections, translated works (especially by Canadian writers) and hybrid texts!
For now, we will not be accepting YA and children’s literature. <\/strong><\/b><\/p>

As an editorial team, we are interested in a variety of topics. Themes and modes that are especially interesting to the committee: illness\/disability, complex family dynamics, migration and diaspora, weird fiction, political\/socially engaged writing, poetry collections with distinct through-lines, and more.<\/p>

We want to read work that is fresh\/weird\/striking, funny and playful, non-linear, or socially relevant,and we are also looking for strong narrative arcs as well as work that has an unexpected, distinct, and confident voice.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Who should submit?<\/strong><\/b><\/p>

Metonymy focuses on publishing emerging writers, many of whom don’t have formal writing training or experience in the publishing industry. You do not need to have a publication history to submit! Metonymy is a queer press. We almost exclusively work with queer or trans writers, and we urge you to look over our catalogue to get a sense of whether your manuscript would be a good fit.<\/p>

We accept novels, short story collections, essay collections, poetry collections, and works in translation.<\/p>

When sending your work, please submit one chapter of your novel or essay collection or up to 15 pages of poetry in PDF<\/strong><\/b> from a completed manuscript\u2014we are not currently accepting works-in-progress. If you are interested in pitching us a translation, please send us a small sample of your translation (same page count applies based on genre), a summary of the book, and why you’re the right person to translate said work. Please also send us a bio and short cover letter<\/strong><\/b> (half a page max) telling us about yourself and your novel\/collection\/translation.<\/p>

June 15th to September 30th, 2026 at 11:59PM. We do not have a cap on submissions. We will acknowledge receipt of submissions and will follow up.
