\"\"We are extremely excited to announce Lindsay Nixon<\/strong><\/a> as the author of Metonymy\u2019s next book. Their manuscript, tentatively titled n\u00eetis\u00e2nak,<\/span><\/i> was chosen for publication by the Gay Book Lovers Unite jury.<\/span>
\n 
\nIn a writing style that Nixon describes as a form of generative refusal towards western writing practices, their manuscript works with the idea of kinship that derives from their Plains Ojibway, M\u00e9tis, and Cree kinship teachings, and also how queer kin were some of their first experiences of this reciprocal relationality and care.
\n 
\nAn initial statement from the jury puts it thus: \u201cNixon’s work blends contemporary Indigenous experience within Queer and 2 Spirit spaces to strike at the heart of colonization and Canadian identity. Along the way, Nixon explores masculinity, patriarchal oppression, racism in Canada, poverty, and the lingering weight of colonial history within Queer spaces. Their intersectional writing merges worldviews and deftly reveals the rotting underbelly of Canadian Queer identity as a space fraught with the legacy of a colonial past. It is vital and urgent work, expanding what it means to be both an Indigenous and a Queer writer in Canada today.”

\nNixon is a nehiyaw-saulteaux-M\u00e9tis curator, editor, writer, and art history grad student. They currently hold the position of Indigenous Editor at Large for\u00a0Canadian Art<\/em>\u00a0magazine, and are the editor of\u00a0m\u00e2mawi\u00ad-\u00e2cimowak<\/i>, an independent art, art criticism, and literature journal.\u00a0Nixon\u2019s writing has appeared in\u00a0Malahat Review<\/i>,\u00a0
\nRoom<\/i>,\u00a0GUTS<\/i>,\u00a0Briarpatch<\/i>, and other publications. They\u00a0currently reside in\u00a0Tio\u2019tia:ke\/Mooniyaang\u2014unceded Haudenosaunee and Anishinabe territories (Montreal), where they co-founded the\u00a0Black Indigenous Harm Reduction Alliance<\/a>\u00a0et\u00a0Critical Sass Press<\/a>.
