This event is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n<p>Lindsay Nixon\u2019s <em>n\u00eetis\u00e2nak<\/em> honours blood and chosen kin with equal care. A groundbreaking memoir spanning nations, prairie punk scenes, and queer love stories, it is woven around grief over the loss of their mother. It also explores despair and healing through community and family, and being torn apart by the same. Using cyclical narrative techniques and drawing on their Cree, Saulteaux, and M\u00e9tis ancestral teachings, this work offers a compelling perspective on the connections that must be broken and the ones that heal. <\/p>\n<p>Lindsay Nixon is a Cree-M\u00e9tis-Saulteaux curator, award-nominated editor, award-nominated writer, and McGill Art History PhD student. They currently hold the position of Editor-at-Large for <em>Canadian Art<\/em>. Nixon has previously edited <em>m\u00e2mawi\u00ad-\u00e2cimowak<\/em>, an independent art, art criticism, and literature journal, and their writing has appeared in <em>Malahat Review<\/em>, <em>Room<\/em>, <em>GUTS<\/em>, <em>MICE<\/em>, <em>esse<\/em>, <em>Inuit Art Quarterly<\/em>, <em>Teen Vogue<\/em>, and other publications. <em>n\u00eetis\u00e2nak<\/em> est son premier livre.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Join Lindsay Nixon for the Winnipeg launch of <em>n\u00eetis\u00e2nak<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Co-presented by the Department of Native Studies at the University of Manitoba for its Native Studies colloquium.
