How do you honour blood and chosen kin with equal care? A groundbreaking memoir spanning nations, prairie punk scenes, and queer love stories, Lindsay Nixon\u2019s ni\u0302tisa\u0302nak<\/em> is woven around grief over the loss of their mother. It also explores despair and healing through community and family, and being torn apart by the same. Using cyclical narrative techniques and drawing on Nixon\u2019s Cree, Saulteaux, and Me\u0301tis ancestral teachings, this work offers a compelling perspective on the connections that must be broken and the ones that heal.

\nLINDSAY NIXON is a Cree-M\u00e9tis-Saulteaux curator, award-nominated editor, award-nominated writer, and McGill Art History PhD student. They currently hold the position of Editor-at-Large for Canadian Art. Nixon has previously edited m\u00e2mawi\u00ad-\u00e2cimowak, an independent art, art criticism, and literature journal, and their writing has appeared in Malahat Review, Room, GUTS, MICE, esse, Inuit Art Quarterly, Teen Vogue, and other publications. n\u00eetis\u00e2nak is their first book.

\nAccess Info: Venus Envy is a physically accessible space. We have an automatic door, no steps and a gender inclusive bathroom big enough for most mobility devices.

\nWe use foldable, plastic chairs for our events. We have three softer chairs that we’re happy to reserve if you get in touch with us before the launch.

\nWe do sell some scented products so we’re unfortunately not able to make this a scent-free space. However, we do ask that guests refrain from wearing strongly scented products.
